The 2026 edition of the Spa Summer Classic brought a vibrant mix of heritage, performance, and close racing to Spa-Francorchamps, as historic machines from the 1960s through early 2000s took to one of motorsport’s most iconic circuits. Held from April 24 to 26, the event once again combined competitive racing with a relaxed paddock atmosphere, attracting enthusiasts and teams from across Europe.

Strong grids and varied race program

Across the three-day meeting, the program featured a blend of sprint races and endurance formats, including historic touring cars, GT machinery, and classic endurance prototypes. The diversity of the grids—ranging from vintage GTs to more modern classic racers—highlighted the event’s core identity: celebrating motorsport heritage while maintaining competitive intensity.

Among the headline series was the Belcar Historic Cup, which opened its 2026 season during the weekend, alongside other historic championships and endurance races such as the Spa 3 Hours.

Wim Kuijl claims opening victory

One of the standout performances of the weekend came in the Belcar Historic Cup, where Wim Kuijl converted pole position into victory in Race 1. Driving a Ford Capri RS3100 Cosworth, Kuijl controlled the race despite pressure from Luc Moortgat, who remained within striking distance but ultimately had to settle behind the leader.

Behind them, the fight for third provided some of the most exciting action of the race, with Porsche drivers battling intensely—Salewski eventually emerging ahead after a closely contested duel.

Multiple class winners were also crowned, with notable victories for drivers in machinery such as BMW CSLs, Porsche 964 RS models, and Ford Sierra Cosworths, underlining the technical and historical diversity of the field.

Classic racing in ideal conditions

The weekend was characterized by favorable spring weather, allowing drivers to push their cars in optimal track conditions while spectators enjoyed uninterrupted on-track action. The combination of sunshine, historic machinery, and Spa’s high-speed layout created a classic racing atmosphere that has become synonymous with the event.

More than just racing

Beyond the competition, the Spa Summer Classic continued to emphasize its community-driven nature. Open paddocks, close access to teams, and a relaxed environment allowed fans and photographers to engage directly with the cars and drivers—something increasingly rare in modern motorsport.
