Qualifying Race
With the sun breaking through and the circuit beginning to rubber in, Daniel Rowbottom got the weekend off to a confident start for NAPA Racing UK. He controlled the qualifying race with authority, holding off Tom Ingram's Team Vertu Hyundai to take the win and secure a prime grid position for Race 1. Josh Cook completed the top three. It was a measured, composed performance, exactly the kind of start a championship contender needs.
Race 1
The first main race of the season had everything. A safety car period mid-race shook up the order and set nerves jangling in the pit lane. When the dust settled on track, Tom Ingram appeared to have converted his pace into a race win. The crowd had barely finished applauding when the stewards got to work. Post-race, Ingram was handed a penalty after his car was adjudged to have had a significant overboost, resulting in disqualification from the final result. It was a brutal end to what had looked like a triumphant afternoon. The amended result elevated Mikey Doble to a maiden victory, a moment he will not forget in a hurry. Ashley Sutton inherited second for NAPA Racing UK, while WSR's Charles Rainford, in only his first BTCC weekend, took a composed third. A remarkable debut from the rookie.
Race 2
If Race 1 had been about drama, Race 2 was about dominance. Sutton seized control early and simply pulled away, turning the race into a procession at the front while the midfield told a very different story. Heated exchanges through the Donington chicanes gave fans plenty to cheer, with positions changing hands and tempers fraying in equal measure. A safety car deployment momentarily reset the field, but Sutton was untroubled, resuming his march to the flag without hesitation. Dan Cammish took second for NAPA Racing UK, with Gordon Shedden banking a solid third. The afternoon took a difficult turn for Tom Ingram, who had already lost his Race 1 result on the desk. His Race 2 ended in the garage, an alternator failure stripping him of the chance to claw back points on a day he will want to move on from quickly.
Race 3
The shadows were lengthening over the Midlands circuit as the grid formed for the finale, and Sutton was not done yet. Composed, clinical, and increasingly confident, he led from the front once more to seal a third victory of the weekend. Tom Ingram, who had endured a bruising afternoon, showed his character with a strong recovery drive to second. Ricky Collard rounded out the podium in third. It was a fitting end to a weekend that had produced the full range of touring car theatre.
Championship Standings
Sutton heads away from Donington Park with 61 points and the look of a man who knows exactly what he is doing. Charles Rainford, remarkable on debut, sits second on 43, while Aiden Moffat holds third on 40. The title fight is already taking shape.
