After four hours of intense multi-class competition across the legendary 5.9-kilometer GP layout, the #37 Cool Racing Oreca 07-Gibson crossed the line to take a spectacular overall victory, capping off a grueling contest at the traditional home of British racing.

A grid primed for multi-class warfare

The weekend assembled an ultra-competitive 42-car grid across LMP2, LMP2 Pro/Am, LMP3, and LMGT3 categories. The former World War II airfield layout—renowned for ultra-high-speed sequencing through Maggotts, Becketts, and Chapel—demanded absolute aerodynamic efficiency and bravado, leaving zero margin for error during high-speed multi-class overtaking.

Championship contenders arrived with razor-thin points margins, meaning success would depend just as much on clean execution and traffic management, always an extreemly difficult task, with the varying speed differences, between LMP2, LMP3 and LMGT3.

United Autosports—racing on home soil—and Inter Europol Competition led the charge into the weekend as pre-race favorites, while the experienced Cool Racing and Panis Racing outfits stood ready to capitalize on any slip-up.

Qualifying: Pole position decided by hundredths

The competitive track action kicked into high gear during Saturday’s qualifying sessions, where track limits through Copse and clean air were at a premium.

In the headlining LMP2 session, it was Vector Sport that initially set the standard, setting blistering micro-sectors through the technical arena section from Village down to Brooklands.

However, a late flyer reshuffled the front row. The #25 AO by TF Oreca snatched pole position with a stunning 1:42.821 lap time, edging out the competition by a mere 0.045 seconds. Cool Racing secured a vital third-row start, keeping themselves well within striking distance for the main event.

Pre-race conditions: British weather threatens

As Sunday morning progressed toward lights out, overcast skies hung low over the circuit, throwing an extra challenge at the team engineers.

Uncertain track conditions and a breeze sweeping across the Hangar Straight meant tire warm-up—particularly getting temperature into the front rubber—would become a decisive factor over a double-stint strategy. Teams were forced to rethink their allocation choices right up until the pit lane opened.

Hour 1: Green flag and early attrition

At 13:00 local time, the 42-car field thundered past the Wing complex toward Abbey to begin the 4 Hours of Silverstone.

The opening stint was fast and frantic. AO by TF held the initial advantage from pole, but a fast-starting United Autosports machine swept around the outside into the apex of Stowe to grab the lead on Lap 4.

Behind the frontrunners, the brutal nature of endurance racing struck early. A mid-pack squeeze involving two LMGT3 entries and an LMP3 car resulted in heavy contact exiting the Loop, triggering the day’s first Full Course Yellow (FCY) period just twenty minutes into the race.

For the affected teams, it was an immediate end to their weekend—a stark reminder that in multi-class racing, surviving the first hour is half the battle.

Hour 2: The pit window opens

As the race passed the ninety-minute mark, strategic variations began to split the LMP2 field. with the Top contendors lapping the LMGT3 field every four laps the traffic causes mayhem.

While early leaders opted for fresh tires during their first scheduled stops, Cool Racing played the long game. By extending their initial fuel stint by two laps, they gained crucial track position when a mid-race Virtual Safety Car (VSC) was deployed to clear debris at Luffield.

The short pit stop under yellow allowed the #37 car to leapfrog both United Autosports and AO by TF, placing them directly into the net lead of the race.

Into the crucial third hour

As the race entered its third hour, driver rotations proved critical. Platinum-rated drivers climbed into the cars for the sprint to the finish, immediately lifting the pace across all classes.

Traffic through the high-speed twists of Stowe and Club became increasingly treacherous. The LMP2 leaders were forced to split slower LMGT3 traffic three-wide at speeds exceeding 270 km/h down the Hangar Straight, testing spatial awareness and nerve to the limit.
