For some, McLaren is a team.
For others, it’s something far deeper.
For Pit Lane News, this wasn’t just a visit. It was a full-circle moment built on passion, loyalty, and a culture that mirrors more than most would expect.

This year marks 50 years since that connection first began. A chance encounter with James Hunt at just seven years old sparked something that never left. From that moment on, McLaren wasn’t just followed, it was lived. Decades on, that same loyalty still runs strong, from Hunt to today’s grid, still backing drivers like Lando Norris and the team that defines papaya.

Over the last 15 years, that passion has evolved into something more. Pit Lane News has grown into a global team of over 20 photographers, built on the same foundations that define McLaren itself: precision, unity, and relentless drive.

No egos, no noise, just a shared goal to deliver.
That alignment made this moment even more significant.

Rewarding the Team, The Right Way
At the start of the year, Pitlane News launched a calendar in support of Race Against Dementia, a cause that holds real meaning across the team.
The response was strong. The effort from within the team was stronger.
So it mattered to give something back.

Those who pushed hardest behind the scenes, promoting, sharing, and driving the campaign forward, earned something money can’t buy. With the support of Zak Brown, that reward became a visit to the McLaren Technology Centre in Surrey.

Four photographers. One opportunity.
And an experience that delivered on every level.

More Than a Factory Tour
From the moment the team stepped inside, it was clear this wasn’t just another facility.
It’s a statement.

History lines the boulevard.
Championship-winning machines sit as reminders, not museum pieces. Every detail, every surface, every movement is deliberate.

Ralph Thompson- "Junior Squad" leader : “It allowed us to really take everything in and capture moments properly rather than rushing through.”
That access mattered. Not just for the images, but for understanding what sits behind them.

From the heritage workshop to the production floor, the message is consistent. Nothing is rushed. Nothing is left to chance.
Thomas Jolley - PLN Editor : “You can smell and feel every detail of history when you walk into the building, it takes over you.”

Where Performance Is Really Built
Mission Control changed perspectives.
Away from the noise of the circuit, this is where races are shaped. Strategy, data, decision-making, all operating in real time, at a level most never see.

Jack Lane: “It really made you understand how much of a team sport F1 is.”
That’s the reality. Formula 1 is never just about the driver. It’s about the people behind the scenes executing at the highest level, every second.
And the scale is relentless.

Jason Brown: “Everyone is working towards a common goal no matter how high up in the company you are.”
That culture stood out more than anything else.
No blame. No finger-pointing. Just constant refinement. If something doesn’t work, it’s analysed, improved, and executed better next time.
Sound familiar?
It should.

The Pit Lane Parallel
There’s a reason this visit hit differently.
What McLaren operates at the highest level, Pit Lane News is building in its own way. A team of individuals, all pushing in the same direction. No hierarchy barriers, no disconnect, just shared purpose.

From photographers on the ground to those driving the platform forward, the mindset is identical.
That’s what makes growth sustainable.
That’s what builds something that lasts.

More Than Just a Visit
This wasn’t about ticking a box.
It was about reinforcing belief.
Belief in the team. Belief in the direction. And belief that when you build something the right way, opportunities like this follow.
More importantly, it’s a reminder of why experiences matter.

A few years ago, McLaren created moments for two young fans ( friends of ours) facing difficult circumstances. Moments that turned into lifelong loyalty.
Now, that same philosophy continues.

Because sometimes, all it takes is one experience to create the next 50-year fan.
And for Pit Lane News, this was one of those moments. 💪💪🏁

Matthew Jordan - S4R Head of Business & Athlete Development had this to say... " I'm very proud of what this Press Team is achieving. Their passion and skills both trackside and within Pitlane News are incredible. And their commitment to supporting each other, and our charity work, plus Athlete Development assistance is outstanding. And we hope to arrange more exciting Motorsport opportunities to the whole team soon. Thank you Zak, again" 😉
