The legendary Autodromo Nazionale Monza once again lived up to its reputation as the Temple of Speed, producing a weekend packed with breathtaking racing, dramatic weather and championship-defining performances as the Eurocup 3 and Prototype Cup Europe entertained thousands of passionate Italian fans.
With free admission throughout the weekend, spectators packed into the historic circuit to witness an action-packed programme featuring prototype machinery, Formula 3 stars and spectacular multiclass GT racing. Torrential rain greeted teams early on Sunday morning before the skies cleared to leave soaring afternoon temperatures, creating constantly changing conditions that challenged drivers and engineers alike.
The Prototype Cup Europe delivered another masterclass in endurance-style sprint racing. Race One saw Emil Hellberg produce a superb recovery drive, hunting down pole sitter Valentino Catalano in a relentless chase before securing an impressive victory. Sunday's contest belonged to the #11 pairing of Danny Soufi and Valentino Catalano, who converted pole position into a commanding lights-to-flag victory to round off an outstanding weekend for the team.
The headline category, however, was Eurocup-3, where a packed field of Formula 3 machinery provided some of the most spectacular racing of the weekend. Slipstreaming battles, fearless overtakes and wheel-to-wheel action thrilled the Monza crowd from start to finish, but as so often happens at the Temple of Speed, the infamous first chicane became the centre of attention.
Turn One claimed several victims, triggering three Safety Car periods during a frantic 30-minute race and leaving more than a few drivers frustrated as incidents repeatedly interrupted the action.
Rising above the chaos was James Egozi. The young talent enjoyed a flawless weekend, completing a perfect 100 percent winning record at Monza. His clean sweep not only underlined his growing reputation but also propelled him into the championship lead, making him the driver everyone will now be chasing.
The GT Sports Cup once again showcased one of the most diverse grids in European motorsport. GT3, GT4, GT Cup machinery, TCR cars and Ligier prototypes shared the circuit in a spectacular multiclass contest that kept fans on the edge of their seats. Managing traffic proved crucial throughout, with the #2 Lamborghini Huracán GT3 emerging victorious after an assured and disciplined performance.
From changing weather and dramatic Safety Car interruptions to championship momentum swings and relentless wheel-to-wheel action, Monza once again proved why it remains one of the world's greatest racing circuits.
