The 2026 British Touring Car Championship season delivered another dramatic chapter at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit as changing weather, tyre gambles and relentless wheel-to-wheel action produced one of the most unpredictable weekends of the campaign so far.

Despite the chaos, it was Ashley Sutton who left Kent firmly in control of the championship after a hugely consistent weekend that saw the reigning title contender claim one victory and two second-place finishes.

Sutton started Sunday in perfect fashion after converting pole position into his landmark 50th BTCC victory in Race One.

The NAPA Racing UK driver controlled proceedings in tricky greasy conditions, keeping clear of the chaos unfolding behind him as Ricky Collard impressed with a strong second-place finish after showcasing impressive BMW pace throughout the weekend.

Dan Cammish looked set to challenge early on but slipped backwards after costly mistakes as conditions continued to catch drivers out, while several midfield runners picked up damage following intense battles across the pack.

Rain arrived shortly before lights out and immediately created tyre strategy chaos throughout the paddock, leaving teams scrambling for the correct call as conditions rapidly deteriorated.

It was Árón Taylor-Smith and Laser Tools Racing who judged it perfectly.
After making the right tyre gamble, Taylor-Smith charged through the field in one of the standout drives of the season, carving his way past rivals before overtaking Sutton for the race lead.

Once out front, the Irishman controlled the race superbly to secure an emotional first BTCC victory since 2016.

The celebrations were understandably emotional as Taylor-Smith finally returned to the top step after a decade-long wait — one of the standout moments of the season so far.

Race Three provided yet another twist.

Tom Ingram produced an aggressive and perfectly judged opening stint to seize control of the reverse-grid finale before converting that pace into his first victory of the 2026 campaign.

The Team Vertu driver delivered exactly the response needed to keep himself firmly in championship contention after Sutton once again followed him home in second place to bank another crucial haul of points.

Mikey Doble continued his impressive independent campaign with another standout performance, while late-race contact left several teams facing expensive repair bills ahead of the next round.

Away from the headline battles, tyre strategy remained the dominant talking point throughout Sunday as teams wrestled with constantly changing conditions.

BMW’s outright pace also caught plenty of attention, suggesting they remain firmly in the championship conversation despite Sutton’s current advantage.


The packed crowd at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit were treated to non-stop entertainment all weekend, with support categories also delivering major drama.

In Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain, Callum Voisin continued his impressive rookie form while William Jenkins remained firmly in title contention after another consistent showing. Oliver Jackson also continued his strong Pro-Am momentum in another fiercely competitive weekend for the championship.

Meanwhile, F4 British Championship once again delivered chaos and excitement, with Ethan Jeff-Hall taking victory in Race One before Jarrett Clark and Dries Van Langendonck also claimed wins during a frantic weekend packed with incidents and safety car interruptions.


Several standout overtakes — particularly through Paddock Hill Bend — drew huge reactions from the crowd.

The BTCC support package overall delivered one of the strongest weekends of the season so far, with packed grids, unpredictable weather and constant action across every category.

With momentum now shifting to Snetterton Circuit, Sutton remains the early championship favourite — but if Brands Hatch proved anything, it’s that the 2026 season is only just warming up.
